“Diversity and inclusion is an all-in full contact participatory endeavor,” Wanga told DiversityInc. “Everybody has to play a role. Everybody does not play the same role. Whether it be a personal role, systemic role or professional role. Even if you don’t play a role – you play a role.”

Wanga also leads Target’s efforts outside the company to strengthen the diverse needs of the communities Target serves. “If we can create an environment where [more than] 350,000 Target team members can have their dimensions of difference be leveraged to influence how we serve and engage with our guests and are relevant in communities, I am out of a job, and that is my goal,” said Wanga.

Wanga began her career at Target in 2005, as an intern in the distribution group. By 2009, she moved into the human resource department where she held a number of roles supporting a variety of departments including; property development, business intelligence and analytics, & Mobile and enterprise strategy. And in 2014, Wanga stepped into the role of director of diversity & inclusion.

Prior to her career at Target Wanga worked at a number of non-profit youth development organizations. She serves on the board of directors at Penumbra Theatre Company and is a former board member of the UNCF National Alumni & Pre-Alumni Council and member of the Minnesota UNCF Leadership Council.
